I just spent a week up in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, at Cullowhee Mountain Arts, taking a polymer photogravure workshop, at Western Carolina's terrific art department/printmaking facilities, located on their campus in Cullowhee.

I had such a great fun time-- and, truly, such a positive learning experience-- with 4 amazing photographers/printmakers, all of us led by the very talented artist and ever-so knowledgeable and patient instructor, Clay Harmon.  I love this process and am now on the search for a great etching press.

Check out some of the prints I made in the workshop. Click on images to see larger.

Silvershotz!

I am beyond thrilled to have my pinhole image, HandMask on the June cover issue of Silvershotz.  Check it out, as well as the feature inside, which includes an interview and images from my Figurative series. The link I've added below, allows you free access to this month's issue; every day, a new portfolio from this issue is accessible to you.  Mine is released on Tuesday, June 7.  A great magazine, and well worth a subscription!

Santa Fe & Verve Gallery of Photography!

I had a truly wonderful time in Santa Fe and at the amazing Verve Gallery of Photography, located in downtown Santa Fe.  Beautiful gallery and lovely people.  I had such a great time and met some wonderful folks.  You can read more about my work during this exhibition, too, at Daily Photo News

And here's an image I made of my daughter while we were out there.

Art Intersection Gum Workshop!

I just returned from teaching a gum workshop at Art Intersection, in Gilbert, Arizona.  I had a terrific group of students-- so much fun they were, open to all the possibilities of the gum bichromate process, and they made some beautiful prints in this intense two-day workshop!  I'll be adding some images on my 'Workshops' page, so stay tuned.

Meanwhile, here we all are, at the end of the weekend, after an intense two days of gum printing!

Just one of the many wonderful gum prints made in this workshop.  This beautiful image and gum print above is by first-time gum printer, Tom Moore.  So see more images made in this workshop, go here.

Very first gumoil print(s)!

After Gordon Holtslander introduced me to gumoil, and Jim Hoyle pointed me in the right direction with a Karl Koenig video-- and I managed to snag Koenig's book, Gumoil Photographic Printing, for a mere $30-- I was intrigued.

This is my first gumoil.  No bleaching or etching was done, and only one layer of oil here.  It could be better, for sure, but not a bad start.  A fascinating process.  I look forward to doing more.

This particular image (umbrella tree) itself was made by Art Howard, videographer and still photographer extraordinaire.

I've added a few more gumoils here since this first one I made above.  This is a very difficult process, and these are not yet where I want them to be, but here's what I printed so far that's worthy of being posted.

Altered Narratives at City Gallery, Waterfront Park, Charleston

Altered Narratives opened last weekend at the City Gallery in Charleston was wonderful.  All the participating artists but three made the trip.  Stunning work and a broad range of alternative processes exhibited, including Maureen Delaney's lumen prints; Sandy King's carbon transfer prints; Rebecca Sexton Larson's bromoils; Doug Etheridge's lith prints; and more . . .   Do go see this amazing array of compelling imagery if you're in or near Charleston!   On exhibit through May 1.
